Personal Board of Directors

The Chairman of Board asked if I would speak to their niece who is graduating from college and is looking to get into the design | content development industry. During our conversation, she asked “what do you wish someone would have told you when you were starting out in your career?”

“Patience.”

As the conversation went on and was about to end, I said “the last thing I’ll say is get yourself a personal board of directors.” “Surround yourself with a group of people that know you, love you and will have your best interest at heart.”

The conversation ended.

After thinking through the conversation, I paused and reflected on the board members who sit on my personal board of directors. Every member is so different. The diversity among them is what keeps me on my toes, the different perspectives and how they interrupt the world that is different than mine. The members keep me grounded. They tell me how it is, no sugar coating. They are supportive. They are smart. They are honest. They are a no-nonsense group.

I am so lucky.
