Dogs … they are not kids

Recently I met a lady on the beach who was chatting it up for an hour or so.

We were discussing the local town, local politics, her ambition to be Mayor and restaurants.

We started to chat about a new restaurant and ironically we both have visited. Shared our experience that one dish was extremely salty, otherwise, it was a nice experience.

She shared her experience and tells us that while she was dining at the restaurant, others came in to dine and they had a dog. She told the maitre d' that she was allergic and could the party still outside with the dog. Unfortunately, they didn’t accommodate her request. She shared that she’ll never return to that restaurant.

NOTE: The maitre d' should have sat the party with the dog outside. Dogs do not belong inside restaurants or grocery stores. My opinion as a dog owner.

She then went on for about 15 minutes about how dogs are not kids. How if you want a child, you should have one, a dog is not a replacement for a child. I didn’t say a word. I listened. I was fascinated. So many things were going through my head. The conversation then shifted to alcohol. She invited us to go for margaritas. Little does she know … I don’t drink alcohol. She never asked.

The point of the story is that you never know who you are speaking to and what they do or don’t do.

In the last six [6] months, we canceled two vacations because Trevor was ill. He is not a child, however he is our responsibility and we weren’t going to leave a sick dog in someone else’s care.

Don’t assume everyone drinks alcohol because I have news for you - not everyone drinks alcohol. Don’t assume.

Until the next,
