It’s ok not to be ok
FRIDAY FEELS
I walked into a diner for a breakfast meeting this week and as I was being seated, I saw a young Latino man with a RED hat. Yes, that hat. He was sitting with three children: two boys and one girl. When I tell you that I was in shocked. The location of the diner is in East Newark, blue collar location with lots of brown and black people in the surrounding neighborhoods. For a second, I thought I might be caught staring at him.
See my disbelief comes because of what we are about to embark on in a matter of days. The notion that people will be deported from this country, the fact that women are hated and that in this free world, we won’t have a leader for all. I looked at the girl and thought wow she won’t have any rights, and I guess that man that she is with is alright with it.
What is to come? Not sure.
All I can say is that it’s ok not to be ok. When you are in a place that things don’t make sense and are causing you anxiety because you don’t know what is coming. Take a deep breath. Remind yourself to control what you can control.
I’m focusing on what is fueling my soul at the moment. Lunchtime Conversation 2.0 is coming back, and I am thrilled. Real storytelling. Stories of those whose journey will inspire us. The stories that will teach us something. Keep us on our toes and stay aspirational.
So, stay focused on what you can control and block out the noise. Like I tried to block out the Latino guy with the red hat.
Until the next,
